PTR offers a number of
computer-based learning services. The technology
that powers this services features state-of-the-art
programming and software applications, all of which
are build on platforms using Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA). SOA achieves loose coupling
among interacting software agents. Specific
applications are not bound to data, allowing for
significantly more flexibility in software delivery,
interaction, and implementation.
Rich
Internet Applications
Our
applications feature Rich Internet Applications (RIAs),
highly dynamic and robust web applications with
functionality similar to desktop applications. RIAs
offer the ease of an intelligent desktop application
and adds the broad reach of traditional web
applications.
Applications are launched using Adobe Flash Player
9, a high-performance and highly expressive
application player that delivers powerful and
consistent user experiences.
Simplified Learning Management
PTR
offers a Simplified Learning Management System (SLMS),
a user-friendly system that features the critical
applications of a traditional Learning Management
System (LMS) such as e-learning delivery, student
registration, testing, tracking, reporting, and
administration, but without the complicated “bells
and whistles” most often not used by the end-user.
Middleware
The middleware platform, used to provide business
logic and communicate between front-end RIAs and the
database management system, was developed with
ColdFusion 8, an application server and software
development framework specifically for RIAs.
ColdFusion utilizes Adobe Flex 3, the most complete,
powerful development solution for creating and
delivering cross-platform RIAs within the enterprise
and across the web. It enables the creation of
expressive and interactive web applications that can
reach virtually anyone on any platform. Enterprises
can use Flex to quickly build and deploy
applications that improve the user experience, boost
the bottom line, and analyze data to enable better
business decisions.
Flex is used to create engaging, interactive, and
scalable applications that combine rich data
controls, visual transitions, and integrated
multimedia. Its highly productive programming model
leverages industry-standard programming languages
and design patterns that dramatically enhances user
experience.
Database Management System
The back-end database system is powered by Microsoft
SQL Server. SQL Server is a comprehensive,
integrated end-to-end data solution that provides a
secure, reliable, and productive platform for
enterprise data and business intelligence (BI)
applications.
Learning Simulation
PTR develops custom simulation software that allows
an instructor to monitor and interact with students
in a computer-lab learning center environment. The
simulator interacts with a back-end database and
reporting system to track student progress, results
and completion times.
The
simulation software can be designed to interact with
internal learning and operator applications. The
simulator communicates with company applications in
regard to loading, starting, stopping and timing of
student operations.
Virtual Network Computing
Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical
desktop sharing system which uses a remote
framebuffer (RFB) protocol to remotely control
another computer. It transmits the keyboard and
mouse events from one computer to another, relaying
the graphical screen updates back in the other
direction, over a network.
PTR develops custom VNCs that allows an instructor
to view and fully interact with students at
simulator stations. The instructor has two monitors,
one for viewing physical appearance of the student
and the other for viewing and interacting with the
student’s computer.
